1 and 1/2 cups sugar
1 and 1/4 cups water
1/4 cup corn syrup
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 (4 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate bars, broken up
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream, plus more, as needed to thin fondue
Optional, 2 tablespoon coffee flavor liqueur
Optional, 1/4 cup finely chopped hazelnuts
Fresh fruit, cut into small pieces for dipping
1. In a medium or large pot, add sugar, water, and corn syrup together. Bring mixture to a boil. Then simmer for 15 minutes or medium heat. Liquid should reduce by about half.
2. Add cocoa powder to pot, stirring to mix. Add in heavy whipping cream and bring back to boil. Add broken up chocolate bars. Simmer on medium heat for 5 minutes.
3. Remove from heat. Add liqueur or chopped nuts, if desired. Transfer to fondue pot to keep warm.
Serve with fresh fruit, pretzel rods, assorted cookies.
